Welcome to a unique surf retreat that helps women overcome their fears and build self-confidence in the water. This retreat combines surf coaching, yoga and mental training in a tropical paradise where post-surf means sipping coconut water under a shady palm tree while enjoying the Balinese island life.

 

Teddy Sun will be leading the surf coaching with video analysis and teaching yoga, while Kim Chareonbood will lead the hypno-coaching, breathwork, and the fun adventures.

Do you want to improve your surfing but you experience mental blocks that prevent you from catching waves? Do you pull back at the last moment or wipe out on a take-off, just not catching enough waves? Do you get frustrated after a few attempts and develop negative thoughts?

Fear is at the root of most problems and has many faces. It can be obvious – like feeling anxious at the sight of a big wave rolling towards you – or feel like subtle anxiety in the back of your mind – similar to putting off pursuing your dreams. Your fear can be rational – because a big wave can be a real threat. But sometimes you know it can be irrational – and you don’t know why you’re overreacting with fear or panic, but you do. When this happens, it may feel like you don’t know what to do with it in the moment or how to overcome it.

BUT THERE IS A WAY! In our surf coaching retreat in Bali we want to give you the tools to overcome your fear, and use it to your advantage by turning it into courage!

Not only will this make you a better surfer, but you will see positive changes in your life where you’ve been feeling stuck.

The Fearless Retreat - What to expect

Every day we explore fear, self-worth, self-confidence and courage from different perspectives and with various activities. In the daily yoga lessons, you test your physical and mental limits. Practice enduring unpleasant feelings and transforming them into inner calm and serenity. Surfing is your mirror to yourself, your playground, your training field. Actively apply the mental exercises in the water and find back to playfulness, joy and flow in your surfing. Some of our mental blocks have an irrational and unconscious aspect about them. That’s when hypno-coaching comes into play. And all this on the beautiful island of Bali: delicious food, warm water, tropical vibes, and the friendly Balinese culture.

Surfing goals:
Depending on the level: improve your take-off, learn how to duck-dive, practice bottom and top turns, and train maneuvers like cutback or snaps.

Mental goals:
Overcome fear, build courage & confidence, get out of negative thinking, 100% commitment to the wave, connect with yourself, and harmonize your body-mind-soul connection.

Problems:
Does fear keep you from catching waves? When it gets bigger and steeper, do you lack commitment and often pull back? Do you lack confidence and feel uncomfortable in a crowded line-up? And maybe you’re struggling with some fundamental life questions like “Who am I?” or “What do I want in life”?

Online-preparation

Participate in our one-month online mental training to help outline your goals and unlock your full potential. This begins four weeks before your retreat. You will receive access to the online members area with videos on the basic techniques and weekly exercises to practice. Feel free to go through everything at your own pace at home.

Surf coaching & Analysis

Our daily surf guiding is about experiencing the water and the waves as a playground where you can be curious and creative. This is where it’s about connecting with yourself and the ocean’s energy. In the following video analysis, we’ll discuss your surf technique. The goal is for you to find confidence in yourself and the ocean.

Yoga & Mind

Daily yoga and mental coaching workshops will help you overcome fear, build confidence and courage, and find peace and serenity. It is also important to us that you find clarity for certain surf and life questions. With lots of practical exercises for the water, on land and in life!

YOUR SURF LEVEL:

LOW INTERMEDIATE TO INTERMEDIATE

Many spots in the south of Bali are over reef and unsuitable for beginners or inexperienced surfers. That is why you need to be at least a low intermediate. You must already be surfing a hardtop board (no softtop, sorry), getting into the line-up independently and catch green waves, and have some paddle fitness. You also need to know how to do the turtle roll, or if you’re surfing a shortboard, how to do the duckdive. You know the rules of surfing etiquette. Just ask us if you are unsure about your level.

The Location

Stay in one of the tropical bungalows at Salty Breeze Bali. Some of the bungalows have a small dip pool on the terrace.

Cool off in the big resort pool, work out in the gym, or socialize with other guests in the common areas.

Breakfast and dinner (vegetarian) are included.

The 10 bungalows are located on a hill above the surf spot Greenbowls in the very south of Bali. Various world-class surf spots such as Uluwatu, Pandawa, Bingin, Padang-Padang, Impossibles and Balangan are all easily accessible.

  • 6 x video analysis (take a USB stick or an external hard drive with you, you can save all videos of you on it, we don’t charge anything extra for the videos)

WHAT YOU HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF FOR YOURSELF:

  • Flights to and from Ngurah Rai airport (airport code DPS)
  • Transfer from the airport to Salty Breeze Bali (we can organise a transfer on request – cost: IDR 400’000).
  • All meals, drinks, snacks that are not breakfast or dinner.
  • Insurances (illness, accident, travel insurance)
  • Visa (most EU countries can enter with a visa-on-arrival if the duration of stay in Indonesia does not exceed 30 days). The visa-on-arrival can be extended for another 30 days after arrival through a visa agent. Currently, it is possible to apply for an electronic visa-on-arrival before arrival. You can apply for an electronic visa-on-arrival here: https://molina.imigrasi.go.id/ (please note that the visa is only valid for 90 days from the date of issue. This means you should apply for the visa at no earlier than 90 days before your planned entry. The visa entitles you to a 30-day stay.

After working as a life coach, sports mental trainer & hypnotherapist for over 7 years in her own practice in Zurich, she decided in 2018 to focus on the mental challenges of surfers. Ever since, she has coached surfers worldwide to overcome fear, build up self-confidence in the line-up and have more fun in the waves!

1:1 Coaching in Lombok

I started surfing in 2018 and although I’ve always been a water lover and extremely good swimmer, I’ve noticed that I have a great fear of currents and drowning when surfing. I also always put myself under a lot of pressure to perform in sports, which regularly led to mental blocks in the line-up. And then, of course, it was also about improving certain technical things, such as paddling into waves, correct take-off timing and becoming more confident in the line-up. I felt very comfortable at the retreat. The group was perfect with 8 participants, so it was easy to open up and share fears and challenges with the other women.
In addition, Kim has a very emphatic and gentle yet challenging way as a person, which has helped me to trust myself more and to approach surfing more intuitively. The coaching from Kim and Vasco and the week in the retreat have enabled me to analyze every spot I have been to since then correctly and to assess on my own whether I can go into the water. After that, I finally dared to go surfing all by myself and paddle into waves despite a high male quota in the line-up. And feel that I earn that place in the line-up. After almost 3 years of surfing, the reward came: A beautiful green wave for me and my longboard all alone in Witsands (South Africa).

I was totally blown away from this retreat. The whole setting was so great, professional but really familiar as well. The daily Video analysis helped me to see what I have to change in the water.
